This presentation looks at action beyond Werris Creek on both the Main North and the North West lines in mid 2019.

On the North Western line we follow trains and view changes that have occurred from Werris Creek to Moree and return. In particular we compare the changes that have been made to coal transportation in the Boggabri – Maules Creek area, having transitioned from coal transported by specialised heavy haulage trucks on a purpose built roadway from the colliery to the Boggabri balloon loop coal loader back in 2008 to now having a railway track branching from the North West main line to both the Maules Creek and Boggabri East collieries balloon loops. We view some grain loading at North Narrabri, visit the Whitehaven Narrabri colliery and view the degradation of the railways presence in and between Narrabri and Moree.

On the Main North Line we see how the drought has impacted the railway’s presence, the Northern Tablelands Explorer being almost its sole occupier of these tracks between Werris Creek and Armidale.

Locomotives seen in action include C, MZ, RL, TT, 48, 80, 92, 93, 5000, 5020, 6000, and 6020 Class in the liveries of Aurizon, Independent Rail, Pacific National and SSR, and we see Moore and Armidale sections of the Northern Tablelands Explorers.
