VAK / VAKM / VAKQ / VAKMQ

The VAK class coal hoppers were introduced in 1979 to upgrade an ageing VO fleet & were built in four batches – the last batch completed in 1981. All were converted to the VAKM class in 1991 with the fitting of tiebars & some converted in 2005 as the VAKMB class when fitted with straight airbrakes. Quick drop doors were fitted in 2006 becoming the VAQK class.

VGK / VAKG / VGKM

VGK & VAKG class grain hoppers were converted from VAK coal hoppers in 2001. They were designed to replace the ‘WHE’ open wagons in 2001 and are fitted with ecofab fibreglass lids. Most were modified in 2011 as the VGKM class.
