INTRODUCTION
The early history of Steamtown is covered in Mini Profile book number three – Steamtown 1977-2005. This second book covers the years from 2005 to the present day. However, before commencing the second part of the Steamtown story we need to briefly go back to 1986 as this is when the foundations of Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre were put into place. In 1986, Act of Parliament No. 81 formally placed control of the major assets of the society with the Corporation of Peterborough (later to become the district Council of Peterborough). This was to ensure the Steamtown legacy remained in the town.
