INTRODUCTION
In this, the second of our Rails around Ballarat books, we look at the locomotives and rolling stock and some of the train services in the area. Today, apart from the few goods and grain trains to Maryborough and beyond, the railway scene is nowhere near as diverse as it was even 30 years ago. Passenger services, returning to Ararat in 2004 and Maryborough in 2010, are now handled exclusively by the very popular and successful Vlocity railcars.
