INTRODUCTION
The Steamtown locomotive collection consists of four steam locomotives and five diesels. However, for the sake of completeness we have also included the Y class steam locomotive which is on display in the town’s main street, even though it has never been part of the Steamtown collection. It does hold the distinction of being the first locomotive preserved in the town and I feel it is therefore worthy of inclusion in this book. It is also a significant part of Peterborough’s railway heritage.
