INTRODUCTION

 The suggestion of a railway line to Truro was first propsed in 1856, as part of a grand scheme to reach the River Murray at Blanchetown and tap the river trade. The route would have been via Kapunda, Saint Kitts, Truro, Pine Hut (Dutton), a station at the bottom of the ranges and Blanchetown. Further proposals followed and in 1869 a meeting was held at Truro to discuss who alternative routes to the reiver: Kapunda, Truro and Blanchetown or Kapunda, Eudunda and North West Bend (Morgan). The Morgan route was the one chosen by the authorities but Truro still wanted a railway.
