PREFACE
Although in the following pages I have described the origins of some features and items of rolling stock it is not intended to be a history of the South Australian and Commonwealth Railways. Rather it is a collection of my activities while employed in those two systems over a span of 44 years from August 1929 to May 1973.
As it is 28 years since retirement and I have not had access to official files, most of the anecdotal material has been compiled from memory aided occasionally by a few diagrams and photographs. Therefore there may be a few innaccuracies with regard to time.
